The Coffee Experience at SCAA 2012
Once again Guatemalan Coffees are present at The SCAA Annual Exposition, The Event, this time the venue is the Oregon Convention Center in Portland. The Event, was designed to be the coffee professional’s one stop shop for everything they need to succeed in the coffee industry.
At the Symposium
Activities began on Wednesday, April 18, with the Symposium 2012, Inspiring New Solutions in Specialty Coffee. Day one sessions started at 9:00 PDT with the presentation Adjusting to Market Realities: Volatility, Elevated Prices, and Consumer Response, the debate included panelists Carlos Brando (P&A International Marketing), Frank Dennis (Swiss Water Decaffeinated Coffee Co. Inc.), Oscar Schaps (INTL FCStone LLC) and Juan Luis Barrios, third generation coffee producer from Guatemala and manager of Finca La Merced and Proquimtec.
The Symposium 2012 venue is the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower.

30 farm samples from Huehuetenango
To get a taste of some of the best coffees in Guatemala, a cupping session featuring 30 farm samples from Huehuetenango, Guatemala, a renown region for the quality of the coffees it produces. The cupping session will be guided by Edwin Martínez coffee producer, roaster and cupper.

This interesting cupping session will take you to a trip around Guatemala's top estates that produce special micro-lots for export. The session is presented by SERVEX, one of the leading exporters of micro-lots in Guatemala.

The 10th Anniversary of the International Women in Coffee Alliance will be celebrated at their annual breakfast. This year's theme is "Empowerment through Connection." All industry members are welcome and encouraged to attend and find out what we are about and how you can become involved. Proceeds will be used to support quality-of-life and other projects for women in coffee producing countries.

Varietal Development and the Future of Quality
Global coffee consumption is on the rise, while yields are stagnating to suffering. How can we balance the future of supply with the future of quality? This lecture will present and discuss the development of high yielding and disease resistant varietals and their impact on the future supply of quality coffee.
